Ceramic circuit boards will promote the development of automotive LEDs

       By 2030, the market size of the future mobile market that provides driverless smart electric vehicles and mobile sharing is expected to expand 50 times from the current US$30 billion to US$1.5 trillion. Investors will benefit from companies in the fields of electric, driverless, connected cars, and mobile sharing. The automotive LED field has become a new blue ocean market. Among them, ceramic circuit boards are indispensable.


The low-power market is shrinking, and high-power is growing rapidly


       The main automotive LED lighting products include rear lights, interior lights, headlights and mirror lights. Among these main automotive lighting products, according to the power distinction, it can be seen that under 0.5W are mainly combined taillights and interior lights; between 0.5W and 1W, they are mainly used for turn signals, mirror lights and daytime running lights; Fog lamps mainly use 1W-5W LED products; above 5W, it is mainly used for far and near beam lamps.


       Looking at the changes in the output value of LED packages in terms of the low, medium and high powers of LED packages, the automotive low-power LED market will show a significant decline during 2015-2020. On the contrary, high-power chips will show rapid growth, and it is expected that automotive LED applications will actively enter the high-power market in the future.


       The problem facing high power is high heat dissipation. In terms of heat dissipation, ceramic circuit boards have been recognized as having the best thermal conductivity. In the era of popularization of high power, ceramic circuit boards are its core lifeblood.


The output value of LED outside the car has grown rapidly, and the LED package of the headlight module has the highest increase


       According to data, the LED market output value for interior lighting reached 605 million U.S. dollars in 2015, and it is estimated that it will decline to 586 million U.S. dollars in 2020. The LED for exterior lighting is showing a rapid rise. The output value of the LED market for exterior lighting reached 1.21 billion US dollars in 2015 and is expected to grow to 2.13 billion US dollars by 2020, with a compound growth rate of 12% from 2015 to 2020.


       The main reason for the decline of the in-car LED market is that the current low-power LED penetration rate is relatively high, and the introduction space is relatively large, so the growth space is relatively limited. In addition, coupled with the relatively rapid price decline in the low-power LED market, growth may not keep up with the price decline. Therefore, relatively speaking, the market output value is showing a declining state.


       For high-power packaging of headlights, COB is the only choice. If ceramic circuit boards are not used for thermal conductive substrates, superconducting aluminum or other metal substrates can barely be used, but COB packaging substrates can only use ceramic substrates.


The output value of automotive LED headlights exceeds 50%


       In fact, with the decline in prices and the increase in light efficiency, the penetration rate of replacement LED headlights is gradually increasing. Relevant data show that the output value of LED headlights only accounted for 40% of exterior lights in 2015, but with the increase in penetration rate, it began to rise sharply in 2016, exceeding 50% of the overall output value of exterior lights.


       In summary, headlights have the highest demand for heat dissipation. In this case, ceramic circuit boards will become a rigid demand. If the heat dissipation of the headlight cannot be exported in time, it will cause a large amount of junction temperature. The light decay of the lamp beads at high temperatures will be very serious, and the service life will be greatly reduced.
